Planetarium Shows through June

NOVINS PLANETARIUM FEATURES SHOWS AND SPECIAL EVENTS

TOMS RIVER – One of the largest and most active planetariums in the state, the Robert J. Novins Planetarium, on the Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ, is offering a variety of shows and special events for all ages.  All shows begin promptly.  Please plan to arrive at least 15-minutes prior to show time as there is no admittance or re-admittance once the show has begun.

SPRING SKY SHOWS: Now through June 17 (Planetarium will be closed May 18-20) Tickets: $10 adults; $8 seniors (60+) & OCC Rewards Members (with card); $7 children (12 & under); and $35 family pack (two adults/three children).

Dawn of the Space Age (Ages 10 and over) – Look back at the Russian and American ventures into the cosmos from Sputnik to Gemini, Apollo, and Shuttle programs, as well as missions to Mars and the outer planets.  Saturdays at 8:15 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. 

Exploring the Spring Sky (Ages 10 and over) – Explore the season’s constellations, bright stars, planets, and celestial highlights.  Constellation mythology and recent space missions are also included.  Fridays at 8:15 p.m., Saturdays at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m., Sundays at 1:00 p.m.

Kaluoka’hina: The Enchanted Reef (Ages 10 and under) – A humorous story for children, join Jake and Shorty, two adventurous fish on a mission to save their reef from destruction!  You’ll also take a tour of the night sky.  Fridays at 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m.

One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure (Ages 7 and under) – Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Elmo explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from China.  Children learn about the moon, Earth, bright stars, visible planets, and constellations.  Saturdays at 11:30 a.m.

Touching the Edge of the Universe (Ages 10 and over) – Look at two satellites that were launched into the Universe.  These space telescopes look deep into space to observe the birth of stars and planets, revealing the secrets of the distant cosmos.  Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. 

SPECIAL EVENT: Tickets: $8 per person.

Pajama Night: Story Telling Under the Stars (For children who enjoy bedtime stories) – Storybooks come to life as giant-sized pictures float among the stars.  Feel free to wear comfy pajamas and bring a pillow or blanket.  Saturday, June 16 at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

LASER SHOWS: Tickets: $14 adults, $12 seniors (60+) & OCC Rewards Members with card, and $10 children (12 and under).  The planetarium dome fills with color and music as brilliant lasers dance among the stars.  Shows change each month.  Visit our website or call for show times, program titles, and playlists.  Fridays and Saturdays, May 25-26.
